Somatic Experience in Coquitlam
Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a compassionate, body-centred method used to resolve trauma symptoms and relieve chronic stress. It does not require you the client to re-tell or re-live traumatic events. Instead it offers you a gentle space to reconnect with your body and its innate ability to gradually release symptoms of trauma and stress in a way that feels manageable and supportive. This resets our nervous system, restores inner balance, builds resilience to stress, increases our vitality and capacity to actively engage in life.
Somatic Experience can help with:

- PTSD and trauma recovery
- Recovery from falls
- injuries, and motor vehicle accidents

How Somatic Experiencing can help:
In Somatic Experiencing, the goal is to restore the body and nervous system’s natural and healthy regulation. To re-learn through the body that it is safe to feel fear and anger, so that they can flow through, and so you don’t have to stay in a traumatized and locked state.
In a Somatic Experiencing session we gently come in contact with the stored survival energy and slowly expand your capacity to be with both uncomfortable sensations, and also pleasant sensations. A key concept in Somatic Experiencing is the idea of titration, which means being with a small piece of an uncomfortable sensation or memory at a time, to allow us to digest and integrate the experience instead of repeating the overwhelm of the original trauma.
Somatic Experiencing can utilize both talk-based and touch-based interventions to bring you into more body-awareness, and a feeling of greater safety and connection to the body. Clients always remain clothed for somatic touch work. In Somatic Experiencing sessions we can utilize breath, body awareness and tracking sensations, movement, and self-touch.
Note: Somatic Experiencing is not covered from Extended Health Plans as it's not an RMT service
